Pottery photos )

I made almost 50 pieces in class, but these seem like good examples of my work so far. I was just going bigger/taller when the summer session ended, so I've continued that trend at home.

I poured the plaster for the wedging table last night, and it set up before I went to bed. I won't get to use it before it completely dries, but since I've never worked with plaster, I'm kind of proud of myself. I've never tried any kind of wood work on my own either, but next I hope to make the table base.

And I had to stop. I apologize for missing any of your posts, but I had to stop trying to catch up. I usually stay on top of reading lj, even if I don't have time to comment or update, but my pottery class ended last week, so I've spent the time since reading missed fic, throwing, and continuing to set up my studio.

The kiln I bought came in Wednesday, and Friday I brought in an electrician to go over wiring. I added mason stains to a batch of clay last night, and tomorrow I plan to pour plaster for a wedging table.

Since I retrieved the last of my work from the kiln at school this week, I hope to post some photos. Maybe tomorrow? We'll see.

*hugs*
Why the exemption for SPN? Come on, peeps!

No spoilers, please. I haven't yet watched, and I'm getting too much information from subject lines and entries without cut-tags.
Floating a wish out there...

I wish for a multi-fandom _Tale of Two Cities/Scarlet Pimpernel_ Fic, Art, Vid, etc. Fest. Any rating. Any fandom. Slash, het, gen... whatever. First time, friendship, romance, h/c, darkfic, humor, etc. Writers pick either of the two works or blend elements of both. They go short as drabbles or long as novels -- series, even. I dream of vids, wallpapers, banners, covers, icons which bring your worlds alive.

Transfer the French Revolution to the Pegasus Galaxy, to Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital, to Hogwarts, to the Impala, to Metropolis, to Los Angeles before the Terminators, to Cardiff, to the Tardis, to Bandom, to your favorite wealthy RPS boys' concerts or trailers or hotels or mansions....

Class warfare. Caste systems. Mistaken identity. Masks. Cross-dressing. Doppelgangers. Doublecrosses. Decadant aristocratic gatherings. Beautiful clothes dragged through streets running with blood. Threat of the guillotine. Knitting. Playing the fop to disappoint those your character loves, and then secretly leading heroic missions. Your hero sacrificing her/his life - or something precious if you loathe deathfic - when no one expects that sort of act from her/him. Offering comfort to another while on the way to execution or loss. Belief a spouse works for the enemy and finding proof s/he does. An unhappy marriage which finds its happy resolution. Whatever other permutation you want.

If you're interested in such an event, copy and paste the above into your LJ, IJ, JF, GJ, etc. Post what you write/draw/edit where/when you want, but please leave a link in my LJ if you're so inclined.

Even if you don't want to participate, please consider passing it on. Add to the suggestions any way you wish.

I've decided to start posting here again. My little compromise of leaving comments in other journals but not posting in mine makes me crazy, and it probably makes me look like a lurker. Besides, I never really embraced the other journal services when most of my friends remained here. So I'm back.

I held out as long as I could, though. Color me weak.

Does anyone know of a Semagic-type download for Mac? I'd like to post a little bit of the personal, but only if I can do so behind a cut.

In terms of fannish activity, I posted a Superman Returns ficlet recently -- didn't like it, but felt good to post something again; I made my first vid, one for Batman Begins, and it didn't completely suck; and I'm reading SGA and started a 5 Things SGA fic that didn't make enough sense to pursue. Haven't abandoned the 5 Things idea, just that particular opener.

I've missed this.

As always, no hurt feelings if you wish to unfriend. I said I was leaving. I left. I said I was back, but only to comment in other journals. Did that for a bit, but now I'm back to posting again. I'll understand if anyone finds the waffling annoying.

Some of you commented yesterday and today to let me know if I don't re-delete I'll still be welcome on your flists. Your kindness means more to me than you know. Thank you.

I will leave the LJ up for the time being in order to keep up with this flist I've missed so much, but I'm posting at IJ, GJ and JF rather than here. It seems like a good compromise. Otoh, if I post fic I'll announce it here, too.

Tomorrow my journal permanently deletes if I allow it. I'm having trouble with the idea.

I will leave this up for a couple of days and then take it down again in hopes I keep my lj semi-alive for one more month. It's tough to let go, especially with so many of you staying put.
JournalFen does *not* want to cooperate as I bulk-move old posts using http://www.mp3vcr.com/ljsec/contents.html. It's down. But I succesfully moved most of my LJ, sans comments, to Insane Journal and Greatest Journal. I'll have to tinker with some posts that didn't make it for whatever reason, but otherwise I'm good. As to comments, I backed up using LJ-Book during Strikethrough, so I have all but the last couple months worth of comments archived to my hard drive. As I told [livejournal.com profile] rivkat, I'm happy to share any of these with you.

I've given myself until midnight to finish moving, and it oddly does feel something like moving from one home to another. I know I've forgotten something -- last time I moved houses, I forgot the Shopvac -- but like then, I'm on a self-imposed deadline. Whatever I forget I'll have to let go. It's just time to start living in the new house, even if I can't find my toothbrush because it's in a box marked "dining room."

So finished or not, I plan to delete my lj by midnight.

I'm taking my last look around the place, remembering, but ready for new experiences elsewhere.

Much love to you.
Te posted this essay on why what's happening to fanartists impacts all of us, but I didn't see a lot of discussion of it on my flist. Her essay made me think about the situation in ways I hadn't before, so I'm posting a link to it here for anyone who happened to miss it. While I'd already all but decided to delete my journal and move on, I feel like Te's thoughts in this post moved me to act. I find a wonderful symmetry in the fact Te, more than anyone else, drew me into fandom six year ago. All these years later, I still admire the fannish example she sets:

I've used these instructions to configure Semagic to post to multiple journals:

http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/snapetoy/16797.html

Testing now to see if it works. I think Insane Journal won't since Semagic gives me an error message about "malformed menus," but I think the others will appear. So goes phase three of the move away from LJ.

ETA: Aha! The post went through to IJ. Trying one more time. So sorry to spam.

I just moved my whole flist at once using these instructions:

http://electricandroid.livejournal.com/152667.html?style=mine

If you're on my LJ flist and have accounts at Insane Journal, Journalfen and/or Greatest Journal, I've added you there. I highly recommend this procedure. Talk about easy.

Who gave me this information? So many of you have generously shared links with me today that I can't find the person who provided this one in order to credit. Help?

ETA: I used the same function to friend my list of communities at the other sites. It worked, so now I'm "watching" those comms. I'll go back and join them next since they now appear on my profile pages. Handy.

ETA: The same procedure works for syndicated feeds. Cool.
I'm in the process of deleting all my journals at LJ, and I'm just paranoid enough to wonder why I keep hitting glitches as I navigate this process. When I deleted the first one, Firefox shut down as I attempted to fill in the form explaining why I made this decision. It happened as I typed my objections to Strikethrough '07, corporate censorship of content, LJ's shoddy treatment of abuse survivors, and the reporting of artists to law enforcement over fanart that's certainly not illegal. I was into my second of two brief sentences, so I know it wasn't the length. I can't help but wonder.

I hit another glitch when I tried to log into an account I created to aid in teaching my Women's Lit course. I couldn't remember the password, so I tried my usual three, only for the first time ever, when I failed on my third or fourth attempt, I received a message informing me LJ had temporarily banned my IP address for multiple login failures. I'd appreciate the security measure if not for the bad timing and the fact it's never happened before.

I'll leave this journal up for one or two more days while I add friends at the other sites, but then it's gone. I'm fed up with the neocons now running what used to be a wonderful service. Adios, LJ.
