I'm in the process of deleting all my journals at LJ, and I'm just paranoid enough to wonder why I keep hitting glitches as I navigate this process. When I deleted the first one, Firefox shut down as I attempted to fill in the form explaining why I made this decision. It happened as I typed my objections to Strikethrough '07, corporate censorship of content, LJ's shoddy treatment of abuse survivors, and the reporting of artists to law enforcement over fanart that's certainly not illegal. I was into my second of two brief sentences, so I know it wasn't the length. I can't help but wonder.
I hit another glitch when I tried to log into an account I created to aid in teaching my Women's Lit course. I couldn't remember the password, so I tried my usual three, only for the first time ever, when I failed on my third or fourth attempt, I received a message informing me LJ had temporarily banned my IP address for multiple login failures. I'd appreciate the security measure if not for the bad timing and the fact it's never happened before.
I'll leave this journal up for one or two more days while I add friends at the other sites, but then it's gone. I'm fed up with the neocons now running what used to be a wonderful service. Adios, LJ.

1. Are you reposting your old entries at a new journal? I'd hate to lose them completely.
2. Will you be cross-posting to these 3 journals? I don't have and don't really want to get a JF account.
3. Will you be locking stuff? (In other words, what if I create an RSS feed to read an outside journal here? Will I be missing a bunch?) I assume the answer's yes, but I wanted to make sure.

1.) I wouldn't know how to repost the old entries without spamming the flists at the other sites with 5 to 6 years worth of content at once, if that makes sense. However, I did archive using lj-book immediately following Strikethrough. You're welcome to any that material.
2.) I will cross-post, so I bookmarked the link Te made to, um, this:
http://cmshaw.livejournal.com/453907.html?mode=reply
which I will study and attempt to apply. Even if I can't figure that out, I'm sure to copy/paste content from journal to journal -- at least until fandom settles on one new journal home.
3.) I will probably lock posts, but I don't want to lose you by doing this. I'll try to figure out some way to keep you in the loop.

I will try to figure out how to read everything. It will be a pain -- I have been spoiled by LJ's integration of RSS feeds -- but I can do it eventually.

I'm sure to keep some of my posts unlocked, so RSS feed might still work. Sort of. Maybe I can use unlocked posts to announce I'm hiding fic under locked posts to get the word out or something. I have no idea whether or not I'm making sense right now. I learned of the existence of white chocolate martinis last night and therefore feel appropriately flattened today. Oops.

Since I'm crossposting to IJ, GJ and JF, this should get you the feed. I'm likely to lock fic, but as I said the other day, I'll announce they're there.

I'm leaving as much to support the fanartists as I do it as a just-in-case measure. I don't see a difference between visual image and fic, and I've certainly written my share of stories about an underage Clark Kent.

Here's a link with instructions on transporting your journal to the new site. It works really well, I've moved things over to both ij & gj so far. You lose comments but most everything else moves over.
One thing's for sure, we can sure start to get organized when we have to, can't we?
