Back from anniversary dinner...

Husband has an affinity for nicknames. Oh dear. Married this long, you'd think he couldn't think up another one. You'd think he wouldn't feel compelled to think up another one. But no.

And he gets way too....

Because the story I told when I came back from dinner? One he'd never heard before in all these years... about my father telling me I "had a touch of polio as a baby." And my scepticism. How could one HAVE "a touch of polio?" I don't believe it. I was born in 1966. Can that have happened? I don't think so.

Husband leaped on this story saying, "But you do have little polio shoulders."

So now he's translated "my little polio shoulders." Because -- oh yeah -- the nicknames? Almost always in French. For some reason. Don't ask me. I don't know.

This one will stick. He's too excited about it.

Mon petit d'epaules des poliomyelite.

Is that even translated correctly? Geez.

Neither of us can stop laughing.

Aww. That's sweet. Congratulations on your anniversary!

Thanks. *g* We had a rocky marriage until just a couple of years ago. I like these moments.

Ma petite des epaules de poliomyélite. I think. My French, je l'oublie!

Happy Anniversary!

He told me there was an accent somewhere, and I missed running poliomyelite together, but he knew. He's pretty good with French. Me? Definitely not. But the nicknames crack me up.

Thank you. :)

He's pretty good with French.

Then why did he call you his little *boy*? *g* If I do have your gender wrong, I apologize! You know, with fandom, I always assume feminine...

[identity profile] devin-chain.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Good call. He's arguing with you about the pronoun. Don't listen.

Yes. I'm female. :) And I should qualify. He's good for an American, which actually means not so good, but better than me at it. See how I expect you to read minds? Oh dear.

Mon petit is definitely masculine. Ma petite is the feminine. Only if the noun that the possessive is modifying begins with a vowel does the possessive retain the masculine form as in mon ami and mon amie (although ma amie and m'amie is used in the vernacular sometimes, it's considered really crass, and L'Académie Française quivers in terror. *g*). Hee! Listen to me be all lecture-y. *embarrassed grin*

Forgetting all that, the nickname is cute. I'm glad that the two of you have retained that kind of freshness in your relationship.

I see him coming around to your way of thinking. He's thinking about it.

Freshness. *nod* We try.

HA. you guys are adorkable.

Happy Anniversary, btw!

Thank you. :) It's been a good couple of years for us. We hope to continue the trend.

Your choice of icon breaks me, btw. I'm honored.

That's so nice. How do you manage it?

[identity profile] devin-chain.livejournal.com 2007-01-09 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It was only a moment. We've almost murdered each other often enough. ;)

And here I thought "Bunnytoes" was the worst I'd ever heard!

This is... pretty damned bad. *g*
