And here I just told
seperis how relieved I was to feel I might actually get over Potterfic. Yeah, the stuff lately just leaves me feeling too pervy. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case, lately the fandom just seems to want to hurt all the characters way too much. Lots of bdsm, torturefic, that sort of thing, which I love in small doses, but all at once? Pass. And all the Percy and Neville stuff? I respect that others find these characters appealing. But I just don't. Sorry. I'm in it mostly for the Snarry, but I'll read about Ron, Draco, Hermione -- sometimes Lucius -- in essence, the characters I'm invested in already by Rowling's portrayals in the novels. The others? Not especially well developed, so they smack of Mary Sue to me. Okay, they're not exactly flat characters, but just not my cuppa. (Oh, I'm going to get flamed over this. Goodbye to half my flist.) Oh hell, and as long as I'm drawing flames, I might as well say that I'm sick of drabbles in all fandoms. They're too easy, and there's nothing I hate worse than thinking I'm getting a short story and then clicking a link to find the synopsis was longer than the fic itself. One paragraph? Please. I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the drabble.
Yeah, yeah. I know. Who am I to bitch when I haven't posted fic in months? That's an excellent question, and a relevant complaint, and nobody feels worse about it than I. Grad school has me pinned to a wall, slowly fucking me with a one inch dick. I won't be able to post fic until May at the earliest. Which, incidentally, means I offer any and all un-friending amnesty. Please drop me from your flists with no ill will from here if you feel so inclined.
Okay, so back to the instarec:
So here comes the Snarry novel "A Choriambic Progression" by Mairead Triste and Aristide . OMFG. Character development. Plot. Adherence to canon. Settings we haven't seen before, but that fit. Magics we haven't seen before, but that also fit. Wow. And a story I can believe. Yeah, I'm one of those who doesn't think Snape would just hop into bed with a student and not angst over the choice. He resists here, and he gives himself hell. I love when he quips about finding himself in a Nabokovian nightmare. Read. This. Now.
I shed tears, both happy and sad.
I don't think I can say enough about this one. Fantastic, and more than a little welcome as I came *this close* to abandoning the fandom -- and who cares whether I quit reading HP, I know, but, okay, *I* care. I'm drawn back in. Wow. Nothing beats a well conceived Snarry novel. When this fandom is ON, it's one of the most richly imaginative out there. So many characters. So much magic.
ETA: The story is at Inkstained Fingers

Another ETA: Can't believe I left out Remus, Sirius, and Albus. Yeah, I'll happily read about them, too. And drunken McGonnegal (sp?) and Sniping Hooch.

You know, checking my lj is the first thing I do in the morning. Generally it's better than coffee. This morning is no exception. *hugs* Hopefully the grad school will lay off a bit over the summer.

Anyway, that's why chan squicks me badly, but Harry feeling stirrings at fifteen that he acts on at sixteen seldom bothers me.
It's a great story, though, and Snape definitely has a conscience. Lovely.
Thanks for the grad school sympathy. *hugs*

*g* Sex in general sounded pretty good when I was 16 (started to when I was 15), and sex with someone who wasn't a teenage male idiot (also known as high school student) sounded pretty good as well, even if I absolutely can't see myself dating someone who was my teacher. Ever. I don't really have a problem with Harry (or Clex for that matter) in fic at that age when it's done right, in a realistic way where Snape isn't a predator.
