"I'm going to roll you into Kingdom Come if you don't stop snarkin'."
Opal, "All My Children" just now

This is the first time I've ever heard the word "snark" outside fandom. Has anyone else heard it used off the internet?

Yep. I've run into it in books before, and not in a Lewis Carroll sort of way. I also encountered it in conversation, years ago, with a non-fandom friend who was from Newfoundland and lived in Vancouver.

Cool!

I've heard it on The 70s Show.

Really? Did they use it in the '70's? Not that the show is all that accurate about that decade.

LOL! I don't think they used it back then. Heh.

I remember it because the mom was pissed off at her mouthy son and asked him to stop being so snarky.

Ha!

The first time I ever heard it was on Homicide: Life on the Street. Kellerman called Bayliss snarky and Bayliss said snarky? And Kellerman said yeah, you know, from the ancient Greeks, meaning butthead.

That's hilarious! I had no idea.

I'm supposed to pay closer attention to language than I apparently have been. *slaps self* Thanks for the cool quotage.

One of my college professors said something about Emily Dickinson and her snark, and my head whipped around so fast. I was like, "Whaaat? Snark? Where?"

I used the word "snark" when I taught class today, knowing I'd posted this to LJ. It felt so subversive! "Ha! I toss my internet jargon at you! Do you recognize it? Do I see a glimmer of recognition in anyone's eye?" No takers. Thank God. I actually DON'T want to out myself to my students.

I'm just self-destructive that way sometimes.

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I had friended you. I did a search on Andromeda and saw that we shared several interests so I went ahead and added you to my friends list. I hope you don't mind. =)

I don't mind a bit. Welcome!

I caught Andromeda for the first time since spring the other night. Hardly recognized it. New cast member and Tir gone WRONG. I didn't feel lost, but maybe a little disoriented.

:)

Yes! Grarl! I love Tyr and I can't believe they made him go away! =(

But it's a lot different, I'm currently watching the early episodes from Season 3.

Nice to meet you!

I saw it in a very English series of detective novels I'm reading at the moment, and my immediate reaction was, "Oh, Christ, it's infecting us now!" Because I hateithateithateit. *g*
